Elegant Wedding Cakes For London’s Most Beautiful Orangery Venues

Natural light is one of nature’s most precious gifts. From midday sun to Golden hour, finding a venue that is flooded with natural light is a dream for any bride, any wedding photographer and any other wedding vendor that knows that natural light provides the best lighting for wedding photos. Knowing this, orangeries, conservatories and any other glasshouse venues are a favourite for brides, and also a joy to deliver wedding cakes to.

Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of placing wedding cakes in some of London’s most beautiful orangery style wedding venues. Let’s take a look at some of my favourites!

The Orangery at Holland Park

I had the pleasure of delivering a mini dessert table to this beautiful glass and stone palace. Set within Holland Park, the orangery is surrounded by beautiful rose bushes and lawns. With such stunning surroundings, the couple and I decided to stick with a neutral and soft colour palette to take full advantage of the beautiful scenery flooding in from outside. The dessert table included a two tier cake for cutting, a ten tier macaron tower and cupcakes for gluten free guests.

The Great Conservatory at Syon House

If you’re looking for a glasshouse wedding, you’ve surely come across the stunner that is the Great Conservatory. Surrounded by 200 acres of greenery and home to an array of plants, you can’t help but feel impressed by the grandiose splendour of this venue. One of the standout features of the Syon Conservatory is the domed top, letting in streams of light. As night falls, you can see the stars twinkling above the glass ceiling, just magical. The Cactus Room & The Conservatory are stunning blank canvases and so highly customisable.

I’ve had the privilege of setting up several cakes at Syon Park, but the below image will always be one of my favourites. A gorgeous four tier buttercream cake with texture and plenty of character, thanks to the purple orchids.

The Barbican Conservatory

You would never think to find this tropical oasis of a venue right in the heart of Central London. Yet, at Silk Street, EC1, lies this Brutalist multi-level venue, housing hundreds of tropical fish in it’s indoor pools, and a magnificent rainforest. If a unique wedding venue is what you’re looking for, The Barbican Conservatory is the wedding venue for you.

I was honoured to be asked to make a wedding cake for a lovely couple who wanted anything but an ordinary cake for their wedding day. I was given a brief with the words “post apocalypse” and a story about two star crossed lovers from different planets fighting their way to freedom to love. I love a love story, so I immersed myself in these fine details to dream up this wedding cake for them. Paying homage to the stone architecture at Barbican Conservatory, and infusing the couple’s colour scheme with their intergalactic tale, I came up with a stone effect, marble wedding cake with geode and gold elements.

The Orangery at Maidstone

For our brides just outside of London, you’ll find the most splendid of Orangeries in Maidstone, Kent. All orangeries seem to be set within acres of land, but this one is adjoined to a stunning terrace. The terrace is so beautiful and in the summer, you’d be forgiven for feeling like you’re at a wedding in Italy. It is incredible.

The Orangery itself boasts floor to ceiling arched windows. Wherever you look, you have idyllic scenery of the landscaped gardens to meet your gaze.

It was difficult to choose which image to share, but I’ve decided to pick this blue blossom buttercream cake. This couple wanted something very simple that reflected their colour scheme. Wrapped in Italian meringue buttercream, this wedding cake looked pride of place in the shade of The Orangery to protect it from the August heat.
