Wedding Cakes With Pressed Flowers

Flowers and weddings are like paper and pen, they’ve got a long and intrinsically linked partnership.

Flowers are said to be integral to weddings due to the fact that they symbolise everything from fertility, symbolism, and happiness to fidelity. All the things you’d be wishing for a couple of newlyweds about to embark on married life.

Despite the longstanding tradition, how flowers appear at weddings is evolving, and it’s great to see so many wonderful adaptations.

Another partnership that doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere any time soon, is that of flowers and wedding cakes. Sugar, wafer paper and fresh blooms alike adorn tiers of cake to create maximal impact and convey absolute romance. Over the last few years, pressed flowers have made their way onto the wedding scene, and they’re hugely popular. Judging by my inbox, they still look to be in demand for 2025 brides and grooms.

Without further ado, let’s take a deeper look into the ever blooming (pun intended) pressed flower wedding cake trend.

What are pressed flowers?

Put simply, pressed flowers are flowers that have been flattened and dried to preserve their colour and visual appeal. Flowers of any size can be treated in this way, and the results are so outstanding that they have been used for art, culinary dishes and stationery.

Edible Pressed Flowers

Whilst all pressed flowers are beautiful, they’re not all equal when it comes to putting them on your wedding cake. For this reason, I am careful to use only the very best edible flowers from Nurtured in Norfolk and Floracle. Both of these flower farms are proud to produce their products in a sustainable way, using little to no chemicals.

Now we know we can safely add pressed flowers to your cake, let’s look at some of my favourite wedding cakes with pressed flowers so far!

One of the beautiful things about wedding cakes with pressed flowers is that you can design them to be perfectly suited to their environment. Here, the couple were aiming for rustic charm to suit their farm barn wedding, whilst still retaining the romance of their wedding day. They wanted the cake to be a standout feature, as well as an evening treat for their wedding guests. To achieve this, we decided we didn’t need the colours of the flowers to be closely aligned with the rest of the wedding which was sage green. I opted for a myriad of colours to dress the cake so as to give the feel of walking through a countryside meadow. To further complement the country glam atmosphere of the wedding reception, I constructed the edges of the buttercream to be free flowing and natural. The cake stood pride of place on a log slice at the entrance of the barn and was “oohed and ahhed” by all the guests as they took their seats for the reception.

Autumnal Pressed Flower Wedding Cake

Though this wedding took place in the Summer, the couple requested that their Autumn colour scheme was expressed on the wedding cake. Pressed flowers are available in a vast array of colours, so I knew I’d be able to find different shades of oranges, reds & burgundy flowers to give this cake the seasoned look the couple desired. The wedding cake was placed in the orangery at Oaks Farm, which lets streams of light in. Because it was the height of summer, I wanted the cake to look clean and sleek but full of character. The cake was covered in a neat layer of Italian meringue buttercream and I allowed the hued petals to sing their Autumn song all by themselves. The cake stand log and wooden cake knife set gave a stunning nod to the season to come.

If you’re looking for a unique way to incorporate this trend into your wedding day, look no further than this cake. Most wedding cakes with pressed flowers are buttercream and round, but there are no rules when it comes to what you want for your wedding, and certainly no rules when it comes to creating a bespoke cake!

As already noted, pressed flower art is huge and my personal Pinterest board is full of pressed flower inspiration. I am particularly drawn to pressed flower nail art and floral resin trays.

These were the inspiration behind this square take on the fashion, with gold leaf gilded edges, just for the glamour. If you’re looking for something sleek, sharp, but still whimsical, why not opt for a version like this? Both dainty & striking at the same time!

Coloured Pressed Flower Wedding Cake

Most wedding cake designs in this trend will be white/neutral. There is no reason to feel you have to stick to this, and applying a neutral colour palette of flowers on top of a coloured background is another way to make sure your wedding cake is truly unique! Are you brave enough to try a deep navy or perhaps a black version? I’m sure the results would be incredible.

Pressed Flower Macarons & Lollipops

This last one isn’t a wedding cake, but wedding favours. I think I’ve been putting pressed flowers on macarons long before I ever had the opportunity to put them on a cake. These photos are better than words to communicate why edible flowers and sweet treats are a great combination. These edible flower treats are a real crowd pleaser and are sure to excite anyone who beholds them. They make incredible gifts for bridal parties or a luxurious gift for your guests.

I hope this post has either cemented your interest in this delightful way to include flowers in your wedding cake or dessert, and inspired you to try something different for your wedding. I’d love to discuss how we can come up with a way to have a one of a kind pressed flower wedding cake at your wedding. Please get in touch so we can kick off the design process.

Until next time,
